Which Countries Require Aircraft Disinsection? (2026 Guide)
Click any country to see the full requirements, what documentation is needed, and how we satisfy it.
Aircraft disinsection is a legal requirement at a growing number of international destinations. Countries impose it to prevent the introduction of mosquito-borne diseases, including dengue, Zika, malaria, and yellow fever, carried by insects that can board aircraft anywhere Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are present. The United States qualifies as a risk zone under this framework, which means aircraft departing from US airports may be required to arrive disinsected at the destinations below. Each country accepts the residual method, the same WHO-approved treatment we provide.
Countries With Active Residual Disinsection Requirements
Each country below requires disinsection for aircraft arriving from the United States and accepts a WHO-compliant Certificate of Residual Disinsection as valid documentation. Click any country for the full requirement.
Italy requires disinsection for any aircraft that has operated in a country where Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are present within the previous 28 days. The United States qualifies under this designation. Enforcement tightened significantly in 2025, and residual treatment is a strongly recommended method. Aerosol alternatives are accepted at some airports but rejected at others. A valid residual certificate eliminates that uncertainty.
Italy
Greece implemented a mandatory disinsection requirement effective September 18, 2025. The rule applies to all aircraft, private, commercial, and military, arriving from countries on the Greek Ministry of Health's mosquito-risk list. The United States is included. Greece explicitly accepts the Certificate of Residual Disinsection per ICAO Annex 9, Appendix 4.
Greece
Australia requires disinsection on every internationally arriving aircraft without exception. The requirement is not conditional on the origin country; it applies to all flights, including those departing from the United States. Australia's Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) is the governing authority, and enforcement is consistent. Country-specific documentation is required in addition to the WHO certificate, which we provide as part of our standard documentation package.
Australia
New Zealand enforces the same biosecurity framework as Australia, requiring disinsection on all internationally arriving aircraft. Operators planning routes that include both countries should note that one residual treatment, if timed correctly within the 60-day validity window, covers arrivals in both. We will confirm the timing when you request a quote.
New Zealand
Jamaica requires disinsection on all inbound international flights. Residual treatment is explicitly listed as an accepted compliance method by the US Department of Transportation's official country registry. One of the most common Caribbean destinations for US business aviation operators.
Jamaica
Chile requires disinsection on all inbound international flights and accepts the residual method. South America's most common business aviation destination for US operators, and one where advanced treatment eliminates arrival complications.
Chile
Fiji requires disinsection on all internationally arriving aircraft and accepts the residual method as a compliance option. A growing destination for US private aviation, particularly for Pacific region itineraries.
Fiji
Malaysia enforces aircraft disinsection requirements at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (WMSA) and other international entry points. Residual disinsection certificates are required, and arrival inspections verify compliance. Requirements should be confirmed for your specific entry airport before departure.
Malaysia
Barbados requires disinsection on all inbound international flights and accepts the residual method as a compliant alternative. Documentation must be carried aboard and available for inspection on arrival.
Barbados
The Cook Islands require disinsection on all inbound international flights and accept the residual method. Operators routing through the South Pacific frequently pair this destination with Australia and New Zealand itineraries.
